Why is Wellness Care Important?
Have you ever wondered why we schedule your pet for a once or twice yearly wellness exam? Perhaps you’ve shrugged off a few of these exams, thinking that your pet seems healthy, so there’s no reason to bring them in.
The Healthy Pet recommends regular wellness exams for your pet for the same reason your doctor or dentist recommend them – if you are able to detect a problem in its early stages, it's more likely to be treated and resolved with less expense, less difficulty and better success.
As the old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Vaccines, routine blood work, heartworm prevention and routine deworming are important components of general wellness care and can prevent diseases that are not only life-threatening, but very expensive to treat.

What's involved?
Besides performing a “nose-to-tail” exam of your pet, Dr. Kate will talk with you about a variety of other aspects of your pet’s health, including:
Those Pearly Whites – Up to 85% of dogs and cats have some form of dental disease by the time they are 3 years old. If left untreated, dental disease can wreak havoc on your pet’s health, so it’s important to follow The Healthy Pet's recommendations when it comes to oral health.
Nutrition – All pets have their own specific nutritional needs, based on species, age, size, and lifestyle. Dr. Kate will work with you to come up with a balanced diet suitable for the health and well being of your dog or cat.
Exercise – All pets need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation for a happy and healthy life. We can make recommendations for the amount and type of exercise best suited for your pet as well as suggest products and resources out there that are not only good for your pet's heath, but they are fun as well.
